以匈牙利建筑师胡达克为叙事主轴,将上海近代建筑史与跨文化融合主题有机结合,立意独特;但叙事视角偏向历史纪录片式介绍,跨文化深度与情感共鸣尚有提升空间

City thrives over time. In Shanghai, architects have composed a poetry of time with concrete and iron bars over years. Wukong Building, the Grand Theatre, Park Hotel, all these buildings are like stars glistening in the map of Shanghai. Laszlo Hudak, a man who reshaped Shanghai's architectures. Once he was a prisoner of war, drifted away from hometown without penny.
The only thing he had was the architecture degree from university. It was the degree that Hudak found fertile ground in Shanghai's embrace. Here, architect Hudak was reborn. Space One of the biggest challenges for architects. How to create a perfect building within limited space? At the intersection of Huaihai Road and Wukong Road, this special geometry results in a cramped space.
Hudak adopted a ship design that aligns with the triangular zone. By placing the building main facade at the corner Hudak avoided separating this plot thereby maximizing the use of space This is the Wukong Building For 90 years Wukong Building has anchored as a Titanic in the junction Here now, it remains a popular resort for visitors all over the world. In 1933, Wudang's another masterpiece, the Grand Theatre, was built on West Nanjing Road.
For over 90 years, it has carried generation after generation of Shanghainese screen memory. Innovation and fashion were the hallmarks of the Grand Theatre in that era. Over 2,400 seats are scattered across the ground floor and balcony. The interior design featured the style of Art Deco prevailing in the 1930s.
Based on the dark palette, Hudak used Belgian marble, metallic panels, and burdened louvered windows. Western cult and modernity meet with Shanghai's unique culture, being the city spirit of interaction and integration. Today, the lights of the Grand Theatre are still glowing. Sitting in the seats, you can almost hear the echoes of laughter drifting through decades It strikes Shanghai regional culture which no modern cinema can replicate In the 1930s Shanghai was known as the Oriental Paris experiencing a golden age of cultural and commercial prosperity.
However, in 1937, the Battle of Shanghai broke the peace. Hudak was compelled to give up his job and worked in diplomacy. At the beginning of 1942, he became an honorary consul of Hungary in Shanghai, by issuing a Hungarian passport, he rescued Hungarians and Jewish refugees. This is his gentler heritage to Shanghai, apart from concrete and bricks. Hudak once wrote, It echoes with many wanderers, yet Shanghai, with her silent nurturing, whispers to him, True belonging is never confined by blood or borders.
When a city embraces your talents and kindness, this becomes the home where the soul could settle down. Kudak life mirrors the odyssey of countless wanderers yet his creations are etched into the fabric of Shanghai He was never merely a high foreign architect but one who stands with Shanghai through thick and thin It was Shanghai's embrace of cultural diversity and innovation that illuminated his architectural legacies.
These structures stand as enduring witnesses to China's modernization and movement towards open-up through the stream of time. In the art deco radiance of the Grand Theatre pauses Shanghai's open heart. Within the elegant French curves of the Wukong Building crystallizes the fusion of Western and Eastern wisdom. Today, Hudak's legacies are still there.
Inheriting Shanghai's open spirit, presenting a China where diverse cultures harmoniously coexist and flourish. a land eternally with arms wide open to the world and future.
