What would happen when Eastern music integrate with Western global trend in the era of social media? This is the moment where an insightful cross-cultural encounter unfolds. Generally speaking, the developing logic of the three videos shows the gradually deepening process of cultural acculturation. And they all share the same similarity of showing local people's significantly polarized comment towards this phenomenon. To begin with, the keyword of the first video is integration. It shows how the catchy Chinese slang translated into mistaken English with incorrect grammar, like, use wrong, he frog. And the Chinese
rap, Da Zhan Hong Tu, went viral among Western internet. Beyond the content of the video itself, we also noticed the difference of how Western and Chinese video creators interpret this hot trend. We can see that the out-group person, the American video creator, has dramatically facial expression and their body language is rather explicit However the in person the Chinese video your creator would more rationally and calmly explain the reason towards this trend The keyword of the second video is huge contrast We can see that in the social media videos, Indian people dressed in beautiful traditional Indian costumes.
But with obvious contrast, instead of singing traditional Indian songs or dancing in traditional Indian dances, they dance dramatically to Western hip-hop music. And this leads to Indian people have significantly polarized the comment towards this. Some say it's brand new and embracing the global trend. However, others criticize it as overly westernized.
And in the third video, it shows the global success of K-pop, especially young idol band like BTS. But the most interesting part is, some Korean music producers would criticize the reason as American people's open mind, and they have a rather thankful attitude towards this. And this shows the unequal discourse power and the hidden unequal mindset of how Asian people have when they're engaging with Western people.
This tension isn't just personal. It shows the general clash between the Western and Eastern cultural values. Next, let's dive deeper and move on to the theoretical analysis part. My part will be conducted in three dimensions. The first dimension is about the Chinese videos in the Xiao Hong Shu, why the Dazhan Hong Tu video can get rival. The roots of it can be explained in the theory of similar assumption.
This means that a human can tend to have the mutual pursuit of the wealth or the happiness, which these are beyond the cultural differences. And in this Dazhang Hongtu video, the lyricist actually shows the pursuit of the wealthy and the happiness, which is the root why it goes viral. And the second theory is the culturation theory. And from the video, we know that they're already at the period of integration, which means that when the Western post something, we Chinese use a chain English like the frog and swan to make our complaint.
And the Western also adopt to our style of video, to create them own. So this is a mutual appreciation and based on our own culture. And the second dimension is from the India video. And the first theory is culture presumption. That in their interview of these Indians, they often complained at Westernized, which is bad for their culture.
And this is mainly because they are from the same cultural backgrounds and from the theory. We know that people from the same cultural background, they share the same value and they share the same opinions. So they tend to make like unsimilar opinions like this is bad for their culture. And why this happens, the Thagen's theory, is that because hip-hop is from Western culture and is individualism.
and they pursue like personal enhancement to show their feelings, show themselves more. Well, in India, they always pursue like their tradition, like their collectivism, and they have a personal effacement not to show their own feelings, but the history or like their beliefs in their dance or things. And the third dimension is about K-pop.
The first theory we use here is cultural capital and the symbolic interaction. The cultural capital means that the country will, the culture will give some non-material, like the fashion trends or the cultures to express themselves to the other culture. And in return, they will get a symbolic interaction, like the hip-hop, they gain popular in different cultures.
and also they use accommodation way to adopt themselves, to reshape themselves like in China they put their celebrities in our own TV shows and adapt our cultural styles And the third part I will hand it over to my teammates to further explain them. Based on the analysis of our theorists, we have found that they have all instructed that there are three steps about the theory of acculturation. So first, when Chinese saw Dazhan Hongtou have been spread to the world and been accepted by so many foreigners, it must be the first step of acculturation that was only called appreciation or just superficial integration like that.
Why? Because, just like the question I've been asked, why the acculturation had to happen? Because it's attractive. It will attract the foreigners. But then it becomes the second step. Why the hip-hop, when dominated the world, that will generate some critical thinking by the India local people? So is an alarm or a window open to the new time? This is the second side. Just like the second side about the U-curve model.
It was called the discrepancy. So because of the discrepancy, so there may be some contradiction. And my answer is that it must be a window. Not only just alarm. Only alarm to several kind of improper use about acculturation strategies. to overshadow the cultural core about itself.
Besides that, the third video, so it comes to step three, Keeplock has been spread to the world, not only for an industry, from industry to a kind of local culture. So this is the deep integration. When it has been deeply accepted by the world, because based on the cultural respect, the mutual respect, the appreciation, it has really become an integral part of different kinds of cultures, not only local, but also a kind of heritage that belongs to the world.
Besides of this kind of cultures, so many kind of Chinese cultures have been gradually go to the world, like Great Confucians, paper cutting, and several things like Chinese teas, medical work. So from this kind of things, what we have to do is to make proper ways to make it not only the cultural heritage belongs to us, but also a kind of valuable things belongs to everyone and be inherited and spread to the generation to come.
Thank you.
