Contestants, you may begin. Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Vesper. This is Monica, and this is Zwicky. It is our great honor to discuss the intercultural phenomenon with you today. Today's case is about the spread of Chinese rap song, as well as hip hop and the integration of Indian traditional clothes and hip hop beats. And we will analyze this phenomenon through different perspectives and offer the valuable lessons we've learned.
So, Monica, would you like to be the first to share? Okay, Vesper. I would like to, first, I would like to illustrate the scenario from the theory of cultural exchange and in-depth intercultural communication. The cultural exchange refers to the process of sharing, borrowing, and integrating cultural elements, such as practices and values. And in-depth intercultural communication refers to the complex exchange of ideas, beliefs among the people from different cultural backgrounds.
And just in this scenario, the quick development of 5G and network really offers many approaches for the intercultural communications such as the Red Notes and TikTok mentioned in this scenario and just showing that the cultural exchange could occur through diverse approaches and could be about many aspects such as language arts and the popular sounds mentioned in this scenario And also, we can see that on the red note, a foreign girl just broke up with her boyfriend, and though the people are from different cultural backgrounds, they all show great friendliness to comfort her, which just shows the mental connection in the intercultural communication.
And also, the popular sounds of China that is shared and loved by the people from different cultural backgrounds really shows the achievement of cultural diversity. So, Sweaky, would you like to show more? Of course, Monica. So in this video, I could see the globalization. And this refers to the adaptation of an international product that around a local particularity to better fit in the local market.
So in this video, we can see that the K-pop want to explore in the American market. So, for example, the BTS, the famous K-pop team, they customized their K-pop song, combined with American rap elements to it, and also created a friendly fan media platform to encourage the American audiences to accept the K-pop music. And also, according to the JY Park, the K-pop corporate founder, He indicated that the American culture market is a very open and diversified one.
So it's a very great opportunity for K-pop to better fit in and find their place in the American market. So this is a vivid manifestation of the globalization. So, Vesper, would you like to elaborate more? Sure, Swiggy. I would like to analyze from the cultural integration, which is one of the four categories under Barry's acculturation theory, which divided people's attitude upon entering a new culture based on their attitude towards both original culture as well as the new culture.
Among the four, the most adaptive and favorable one is integration. It happens when an individual actively values and appreciate the culture values from the new culture and at the same time without losing the connection to its original roots. And in this case, we can see that this positive phenomenon can be found everywhere. For example, in the second clip, Indian people, Indian interviewee are actively adapting to Western culture by dancing in their traditional clothes but to the hip-hop beats and see it as a good way to evolve their own culture and a valuable trend in the globalization.
And also, there are also other voices thinking that it is still necessary to embrace their own culture and facilitate their cultural confidence. Combining the two ideas, we can see that Indian people are actively integrating into this new trend. They are able to enjoy the hip-hop culture coming from America, but at the same time without losing their traditional roots to their traditional culture such as the traditional clothes in India.
So what have we learned from this video, Sweekee? So Vesper, in this video we could learn about the host communication competence according to the KIN, which refers to the overall internal capacity of a stranger to decode and encode the information in accordance with the host cultural communication practices. So it consists of three subcategories. So what I want to share with you the first one, the cognitive competence.
It refers to learn the host cultural knowledges. So in this video, we can see that through the medium of the social media platforms such as the Instagram, Red Notes and the TikTok, people nowadays are exposed to the various, diversified information on the internet. So we can learn about the Indian traditional clothes on the internet and also the Chinese lanes that humor and also the capable elements on the internet We are now not like traditionally learned from the textbook but we're just scrolling our screens to learn the culture right now.
So Monica would you like to be the next one? Yes, Vicky. I would like to show the second part of this theory that is affection competence. It refers to the motivational and emotional capacity to deal with a number of new situations when first entering a new culture. And just in this scenario, though there are many differences exist between the people from different culture backgrounds, they most show the positive attitude and openness in the intercultural communication, which really offer them great opportunities to connect with more foreign elements, such as the popular sounds in China and the K-pop mentioned in South Africa, which greatly foster the development of intercultural communication.
So, Vesper, would you like to show more? Sure, of course. I would like to start from the third perspective in this theory, that is operational competence. So it refers to an individual's capability to collect a combination of verbal and nonverbal patterns in the social situations in the host context. So here in the video, we can see that a Chinese rap song is enjoyed by the global audiences, and Indian people are actively integrating their traditional clothes with the hip-hop beats, and the American people are starting to actively engage with the hip-hop industry, which are all positive phenomena.
we can see in this video that people are actually taking action to learn more about each other's culture and embrace a colorful world. And in conclusion, today we've analyzed the case from four perspectives and offered the valuable lessons we've learned from this case. And I believe based on these valuable lessons, we're able to protect cultural diversity, facilitate mutual learning, and together embrace inclusive and colorful future in the next generation.
