And now let's proceed to scenario analysis. You may start now. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to our program, Cross Cultural Currents. In the video, we witnessed the mix of diverse cultures, such as the Chinese pop song, Dazhan Hongtu, gained millions of views in just minutes on TikTok.
And also numerous netizens joined this dance rush. And today we're focusing on the reasons behind the successful digital acculturation and the challenges might arise, and also the approaches to dealing with these challenges. Professors, let's start with a simple but personal question first. In the video, what is the most striking scene for each of you? From my point of view, what impressed me most is the music, 大展鴻圖.
It tops the music ranking that even surpasses J.Chow and JJ, who we call the sky-level Asian singers. Wow, that's really interesting. I agree with you. But what strikes me most is the scene on the social media. I heard a very important thing and very interesting post. That is like when a girl is making a favor to her boyfriend and she is crying.
And a lot of people are commenting under that post and say, Oh no, you swan, hey frog, so don't cry. Well that very interesting because some hideous and some very hilarious expressions the top hits are sometimes accepted by millions of people online And that reminds me of the expression long time no see That used to sound very chinglish to some foreigners, but they are now listed into the Oxford Dictionary.
Thank you, professors. Those are such vivid episodes. Let's just dig a little deeper into it. Dr. Wu, you have studied global content creation for several years, From your professional perspective, what is the secret sauce behind this successful digital acculturation? I think it's the content itself. It's attractive and excellent. For example, the music, Dazhang Hongtu's rhythm, is attractive and can leave a deep impression on the audiences and can create a special vibe that young people like.
And the K-pop is very popular all over the world. And that's because the Army like team management so they can offer the sky-level, top-level performances for our audiences. And Dr. Tang, you specialize in cross-cultural communication. From your point of view, what is the reasons behind this? Well, from my perspective, I think there are two reasons.
The first one is engagement. And the next one is about the ownership. Well, let's talk about the first one, engagement. As I've mentioned before, and as Dr. Wu has mentioned before, now there are some phenomena on social media, and the people are not just audiences listening to the stories and narratives of other people, but they speak themselves. They post their own thoughts on social media, and they express their free ideas to interact with other people.
That is a kind of participation. And the second view is about the ownership. The more they are immersed in the conversations with other people and they value the interactions with other people online, they can feel a strong sense of ownership. And that is like a very good cycle for engagement too. Yes, from individual to the social community, these creators have a sense of belonging and ownership.
This is a good point. And I want to add something more. With the globalization deepens, the dialogue between civilizations is not a choice, but a necessity. And people have more chances to communicate with people from other civilizations, for example, through the marriage or the migration. And people's minds become more and more open and inclusive.
Indeed. Our audiences are no longer just tourists, but they are also part of the community of other cultures. However, in the video, we saw some Indian interviewees said they might be westernized. So, Dr. Tong, do you think this is a possible challenge? Yes, indeed. It's a very obvious challenge. Just like I remember, a reporter made an interview in the Indian market and they interviewed some of the Indian audiences about the Indian hip-hop culture, and a lot of people are commenting that, well, I do think our cultures have been westernized, and we fear that we may lose our cultural roots, and maybe sometimes we're even being brainwashed.
Yes, I agree with Dr. Tam. And besides the westernization, I would like to say something deeper about the cultural homogenization. Cultural diversity is very important because our world should be colorful and vibrant. If people all over the world listen to the same music wear the same clothes and chase the same chance what if this happens This poses a threat to our cultural diversity Thank you professors Now we know the possible challenges So how can we solve these possible problems? What can we do?
Yes, first, we can stay confident in our own culture. For example, our Chinese, we have so many national intangible cultural heritage, and we can find something unique and to show it, to show them to the worldwide. And we need to know that cultural arrogance sets a barrier for us to learn something and to get students from other cultures.
while cultural inferiority already bows to everything outside, what we need to do is keep our cultural confidence so that we can share our culture equally and respectively with others. Yes, I do agree with you, Dr. Wu. Cultural confidence is so important, so crucial in promoting our own culture. And I just want to add a few points.
Well, I think creativity is another thing that is very crucial to promoting and spreading our culture. Boost your creativity, dive deeper into your own cultural roots, and find something that is so special and unique about your own culture, and make and build your own cultural IP. Thank you, professors. Ladies and gentlemen, our professors have made it clear. A rich multicultural life isn't found but forged.
It means that we move beyond passive acculturation to active creation by choosing engagement over isolation, creation over westernization, and ultimately, cultural confidence over homogenization. And that is the end of today's program.
